God’s Daily Gifts

I remember the first time I seriously considered applying for the position of police officer. One of the biggest things I had to overcome was fear, not just the fear of danger or things that could happen, but fear of the unknown. One day it hit me. None of us are promised another breathe, much less another day of this life. As morbid as it may sound, it was a personal reckoning for me. Now, it wasn’t an excuse to live recklessly from that moment on, but I promise you my vision for life and purpose was realized a lot quicker when these things came to light for me.

Often, especially around the holidays, families are at odds it seems, it is one of the reasons for the increase in domestic violence calls during this time of year. But for some, the miracle of Christmas season brings about the realization that through forgiving ourselves and others we find a more intimate faith in God. In a few short days, the talk will shift from Christmas and the manger to new beginnings and resolutions. Don’t put off your pursuit of Christ for tomorrow when we are not promised another breath. Listen to His leading and follow His voice.

Take time over the next few days and meditate on the promises of God’s Word, listen to what He is saying to you for this holiday season and as we prepare for a new year. His rewards for obedience is magnificent.

Heavenly Father, Thank You for the gift of today. Amidst all the busyness of life, help me to remember my purpose, and to seek to glorify You in all I do today, and everyday. -Amen

God speaks to us through the Bible, and His Word is living and applicable to our lives. I believe today if we listen closely, we would hear Him say:

My child, enjoy this day. It is my gift to you, another day of opportunity, another day of moments to serve, another day to store up treasures in Heaven through your actions on earth. Do not take for granted this day, but know I have given you all you need to fulfill the purpose I have given you.

How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog—it’s here a little while, then it’s gone.

James 4:14 NLT
