Change Agents: Love & Honor

When you hear the words love and honor, what do you think? How would you define them? Now, I was studying the relation between love and honor, whether they could exist independently of each other in a relationship. How can we love someone and not honor them, or honor them and not love them? Jesus, in John 13, demonstrated, and embodied love and honor. He showed this by honoring His disciples by washing their feet, which may not make a lot of sense to us today. Love is so rare in the midst of conflict, but if we were to hold tight to love and honor in the midst of tumultuous times, we would come out on the other side better than before.

So many have claimed to have love, but love is an action, my friends. If you love someone, your life and actions will show it, and honor will be its fruit. From the workplace, church, and the family, we should strive to discover the true meaning of honor and love, replace our own selfish desires and ambitions with a preference for others. When we practice the true meaning of love, by showing it in the way we talk, act, and treat others, it places us in vulnerable positions where others can potentially take advantage of us. But, these two things; love and honor, are the two most assured vehicles to create meaningful, lasting change in the world. It begins with one. Will you be the one in your community? Jesus gave us the example! Let’s go to work!

Heavenly Father, Thank You for giving me the example of love and honor in action. Thank You for loving me, not just saying it, but showing it. Help me to do the same in the world I live in today. -Amen
