You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.

1 John 4:4 NIV

I’ve struggled with writing a devotion recently. I’ve been mentally and emotionally wiped out after completing the manuscript for Bulletproof Marriage: a 90 Day Devotional, scheduled for January 2019 release. That combined with the launch of Behind the Badge: 365 Daily Devotions for Law Enforcement, managing a business, taking care of a family, and so on. I did find myself in a personal pity party, that’s PPP for those of you who are counting (It’s a corny joke, you can laugh.) I found myself thinking about how difficult it seems everything has been for me. Think about college football (the oblong ball, not the round one.) The most laborious play is running the ball up the middle every play.  That will wear down the running back and the defenders. Either way, I caught myself in the pity party and realized the poison present. That’s the key, I suppose. Instead of looking around at all the wicked people who succeed and seem to have it all, instead of counting the blessings of others, instead of finding reasons to complain or be miserable, count the reasons you have to be thankful. It’s given me a new perspective. It’s easy to fall prey to the false teaching of some silver-tongued devils behind pulpits. It’s easy to fall prey to the seducing persuasion of the spirit of the evil one. But, if we know the Truth and walk in the truth, we are empowered to overcome the seducers.

You know the truth. The truth is found in God’s word. In fact, to know the truth and walk in truth can be quite a confusing statement. If I were to ask you, “which is healthier, organic food or processed foods?” You would obviously answer with “organic food.” But, the majority of people who answer with the truth in this scenario wouldn’t have all organic food or healthy food in their home or regular diet. That’s the difference between knowing the truth and walking in the truth. We must begin putting to practice the word of God in our lives. You see, in these perilous times, this will be our only hope. Our only hope has always been found in the Word of God, Jesus Christ. The same truth that allowed me out of my personal pity party is the same truth that will deliver you from addiction, or save your marriage, or comfort the grieving hearts. The same truth will radically change the lives of millions if we are willing to know the truth and walk in it. When we do this, we will change our lives, our families, towns, and eventually, the world. Walk in love, the love of God. May your life be a reflection of the light of God’s powerful, life-giving truth. Keep me in your prayers as we begin moving into the next phase preparing for the launch of Bulletproof Marriage: a 90 Day Devotional and as I begin writing my next book. May the goodness of God overwhelm you today and always.
